Take Your Places
18 x 24″
acrylic on hardboard
Are we taking center stage? Oh wait not quite! Life is complicated and sometimes we are not quite ready for it. We feel naked and exposed in all of our raw but honest selves. We push forward playing our roles because after all we are only human!
This piece started as many layers of texture, color and typographical words. All those layers add a rich history of the process of making this painting. I regularly draw the figure and the gestural sketches are so captivating to me, those quick studies of the human figure suggest so many different stories to the human condition. It is very fun to take those poses and build a potential narrative around them through the process of layering them into a painting.
